Our meditation center provides freely meditation instructions, food and lodging for local and foreign meditators. The center is run with the help of donators given by meditator and generous donors.
This meditation center was established by Venerable Gampaha Pemasiri Thera in the year 2001. Local and foreign devotees helped to startup the center.
Starting from 1956 venerable Mahasi Sayadow taught meditation on this land as well as U Sujatha(also from Myanmar). Because of that this land is considered to be blessed by those great meditation masters. After few years of teaching meditation here the meditation center was moved to another end of the land. After that point it was named as Siyana international Vipassana meditation center Kanduboda.
Sumathipāla Na Himi was born in Ceylon and was initiated as samanera at the age of seven. He was sent to Burma three years later where he took ordination and met Mahasi Sayadaw, who became his mentor, and where he lived until his sixtieth birthday.
He returned to Ceylon in 1952 and never went back to Burma. He and three other Burmese bhikkhus had been entrusted with a mission to revive the Satipaṭṭhāna tradition on their Indian Ocean island.
Born on December 5th 1941 in Gampaha district. Started practising in Kanduboda at the age of 15. He received his samanera (novice) ordination in 1963, his upasampada (bhikkhu) ordination in 1965. In 1969, he obtained official Burmese Master's recognition as a meditation teacher and later on also as a teacher of meditation teachers.
On passing away of his beloved teacher ven. Sumathipāla in 1982, ven. Pemasiri became the chief incumbent of the center. After 5 years of untiring work, he relinquished this position and spent about a year abroad learning and travelling.
